Co-digestion
Cutting-edge energy recovery from biowaste
The latest addition to Infraserv Höchst‘s inte-grated waste-management system is the co-digester (Co-D): the perfect complement to the industrial wastewater-treatment plant and the sewage-sludge incinerator. Any sludge produced by the co-digester is thermally utilized (combusted) in the sewage-sludge-incineration plant, while its process effluents are purified in the wastewater-treatment plant. This helps to permanently eliminate pollutants and active agents. In short, by working togeth-er, these three facilities can handle a wide range of liquid and hydraulically transportable wastes safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Only digestible waste can be accepted. So before the first waste shipment is accepted, our experts test it for digestibility. If neces-sary, the waste can be sterilized right at the co-digester with no hassle, and no need for you to perform the sterilization yourself.
The waste is used to generate electricity and steam from biogas. For food refuse and bio-genic waste flows especially those from bio-chemical and pharmaceutical processes this innovative technology represents a low-cost treatment solution.
Our wastewater pilot plants also contain trial systems where we can test whether your co-substrates would be good candidates for co-digestion.
Waste types
- Over 100 categories of waste as defined in the Waste-Catalog Ordinance. They include homogenized food waste from food production and the pharmaceutical industry
- Wastes from oil and grease traps
- Biogenic refuse from biochemical processes or foodproduction
- Mother liquors or solvent mixtures
- Slaughterhouse wastes such as blood
- Sewage sludge, including noxious constituents
- Alcohols, glycerins, stearate, etc.
