Industry: Pharmaceuticals, Lilly Pharma Fertigung und Distribution
GmbH & Co. KG in Gießen, Germany

Lilly Pharma Fertigung und Distribution – the German branch of Eli Lilly, the global leader in pharmaceutical production – was looking for a service provider with industry expertise and specific design capabilities who could merge its pharmaceutical storage and distribution activities, which encompass some 32 million drug packages per year.

The task: to engineer and build a new distribution center tailored precisely to the customer's processes, consisting of an office wing, a refrigerated high-bay warehouse and a logistics line with shipping and receiving areas – all in compliance with strict GMP requirements and rigorous sanitary standards.

Special requirements aimed to optimize material flows; this included separating the shipping and receiving areas. The distribution center would be expanded at a later date, so the first construction stage incorporated an option to add on more buildings. With its impressive engineering work, Infraserv Höchst was the service provider of choice for the second stage of the project, too. Infraserv Höchst and the customer erected another high-bay warehouse with a low- and normal-temperature zone and a sorting building for packing and incoming/outgoing goods.

The bottom line

Outstanding building performance and compelling financials. The customer benefited from our integrated experience in providing solutions for logistics processes, facility management, obtaining permits, liaising with government agencies, and handling construction projects for the pharmaceutical industry to demanding GMP standards.
