Industry: Chemicals; Ticona GmbH, Industriepark Höchst
Welcome to Industriepark Höchst! Ticona, a subsidiary of U.S. chemical group Celanese, is a global leader in the production of engineering plastics. Its high-performance plastics are used for a wide range of applications – from cogwheels for industry and tiny optical components all the way to structural components for carmakers.
Ticona intends to leave its Kelsterbach site by mid-2011 to make room for the Frankfurt Airport expansion. A comparison of German sites revealed that Industriepark Höchst offered the best conditions for Ticona's continued success. Infraserv Höchst, the site operator, presented a compelling technical and business plan. Ticona is rebuilding its production facilities at Industriepark Höchst: 4,000 cubic meters of concrete, 600 kilometers of cabling, 10,000 metric tons of steel and about 100 kilometers of pipelines will be needed to build the plant. Due to its sheer size, the relocation has been called a "once-in-a-century project" for the park.
The bottom line
To prepare for the relocation of the world's largest polyoxymethylene (POM) facility within the customer's tight timeframe, Infraserv Höchst will provide the site infrastructure on an agreed-upon schedule. This involves running utility and disposal lines, data cables and access roads to the production facilities. Once everything comes online, Infraserv Höchst will supply energy, utilities, process media and raw materials and safely dispose of wastewater and waste. Infraserv Höchst's efficient energy-production plants and pipeline network will continuously and redundantly supply the massive amounts of steam needed by the facilities. Also, Infraserv Höchst will host Ticona's IT and telephony systems, secure the site and provide occupational medical care for staff members with its security services and fire department.
