Environmentally friendly biomethane from Industriepark Höchst
Infranova was established by Infraserv Höchst and Mainova AG, a utility company, to build an innovative biomethane-upgrading plant at Industriepark Höchst. Costing EUR 5 million, this plant has been upgrading biogas to pipeline quality since September 2011. The resulting biomethane is then injected into the public gas grid.
The raw biogas is produced from sewage sludge and organic waste at Infraserv Höchst's biogas plant at Industriepark Höchst.

State-of-the-art engineering
The plant first strips out all unwanted substances from the biogas. Then, the biomethane is compressed to grid pressure in a local feed station. Liquefied gas is added until the gas reaches the necessary calorific value. Finally, the biomethane is odorized and injected into the public natural gas grid.
Infranova's plant stands out for its use of two state-of-the-art features: First, it uses amine scrubbing to upgrade the raw biogas to pipeline quality. Second, its level of methane slip (uncontrolled escape of methane) is extremely low, mainly because the amine scrubbing process is highly effective and minimizes methane slip as much as technically possible.
The climate-friendly biomethane produced at Industriepark Höchst replaces conventional natural gas and conserves our finite supplies of this natural resource.
The biomethane-upgrading plant demonstrates that industrial estates can be excellent locations for green, sustainable energy generation.
