New Ticona plant will be located in Industriepark Höchst

Ticona moves production plant from Kelsterbach to Frankfurt-Höchst

Ticona GmbH will move its plant from Kelsterbach to the Industriepark Höchst in Frankfurt am Main. This was announced on Friday by Dr. Joachim Gersdorf, Managing Director of Ticona GmbH, during a press conference attended by Jürgen Vormann and Dr. Roland Mohr, the managing directors of Infraserv Höchst, which operates the Industrial Park.

The new facility will begin production of Hostaform®, a technical polymer, in the Industriepark Höchst as of 2011. Ticona will employ approximately 300 persons at their site in the Höchst Industrial Park. “The total number of critical factors in favor of the Industriepark Höchst made it a clear winner“, said Dr. Gersdorf about the decision made by the Board of Directors of the Celanese Corporation, USA, on July 26, 2007. “All of the key decision criteria we set, like safety, qualified employees, risks involved with the move, provision of basic materials and energy, costs, infrastructure and unimpaired delivery capabilities, were fully met and left no question unanswered for a business-driven decision. Industriepark Höchst offers all of the necessary prerequisites to ensure that Ticona will be successful for the next 40 years in Germany and around the world. These were the reasons why the Industrial Park made it possible to reach an unconditional decision as it surpassed all rival sites including Wiesbaden to win the comparison competition for the new Ticona site,” according to Dr. Gersdorf.

More than 50 qualified sites competed in the selection process for the new Ticona production. Over the past eight months all of the aspects of this extensive production relocation project were carefully examined.

Vormann: “A technically and commercially convincing comprehensive solution.”

“We are extremely pleased that Ticona decided in favor of the Industriepark Höchst,“ stated Jürgen Vormann, Head of Executive Management at Infraserv Höchst. “The decision shows that Infraserv Höchst offered a comprehensive solution encompassing technical and commercial aspects, and that we are not only competitive in comparison to other industrial sites, we also hold a leading position,“ noted Vormann. “In addition to the site’s infrastructure, its excellent logistical location, and its short distance from the previous Ticona plant, which will certainly be viewed a benefit by the employees, our provision of cost-efficient, top quality and reliable utilities, waste disposal, site development and logistical services were certainly important arguments in favor of the Industriepark Höchst,“ emphasized Dr. Roland Mohr, Managing Director at Infraserv Höchst.

The reason for the move is the planned expansion of the Frankfurt Airport. Ticona, Celanese and Fraport, the operator of the Frankfurt Airport, announced in November 2006 that Ticona would cease all activities in its Kelsterbach plant by mid-2011 and in return would receive compensation from Fraport to finance the costs of relocating to another production site.

The contracts are sealed: Ticona will relocate at the Industriepark Höchst. Dr. Roland Mohr and Jürgen Vormann, Managing Directors of Infraserv Höchst, Dr. Joachim Gersdorf, Managing Director of Ticona GmbH and Dr. Jan-Mathias Kuhr, General Counsel of Celanese (from right to left) sign the contract containing altogether eight folders.
